Automotive awards

This innovative concept was awarded in the "Excellent Product Design - Automotive Parts and Accessories" category. The front panel, which is over one meter wide, is produced and decorated in a single work step using in-mold decoration (IMD). Laser engraving allows the radar/LiDAR-transparent panel being backlit.

KURZ impressed the IMDA (In-Mold Decorating Association, USA) jury for the third time with the immediately installable rear end cover, which was produced using the innovative 2K-IMD process. The backlit component received an "Honorable Mention" and scored points with numerous design options in which light plays a central role.

The HMI (Human Machine Interface) Smart Crystal Panel for the vehicle interior won the "Special Mention" award in the category "Mobility & Innovation – Smart & Digital". It was developed in cooperation with Swarovski Mobility and the KURZ subsidiaries BURG DESIGN and PolyIC. 

With its "Deepwave" door trim design, KURZ demonstrates the potential of indium-based metallization in the IMD process: The brilliant colours and phantastic depth effects change with the incidence of light on the homogeneous surface. The functionality appears through touch or gesture control.

The KURZ ‘Iconic Space Grille’ has won the the The ‘Future, Mobility and Parts’ award of the world-renowned Automotive Brand Contest. Its 3D-prism design, high efficiency IMD technology, and crystal clear, self-healing PUR surface convinced the jury. 

The awarded HMI panel stands out due to its one meter recyclable single image produced by means of In-Mold Decoration (IMD). It presents a detail-rich surface design into which touch and light functions have been embedded. The curved geometry acts as a tactile aid.

Bundling the four processes of decoration, thermoforming, injection molding, and punching is a groundbreaking approach. By doing so, we achieve unprecedented performance levels when it comes to decorating smart three-dimensional plastic components with matching touch sensors.

Cloudy Feathers is the award-winning day-night design of a three-dimensional, organically curved door trim. The tag design is reminiscent of a bird’s feather dress. A simple touch activates the backlighting, and the springs become technical-looking diamonds. The diamond color changes with a single swipe, creating a surprising new look. KURZ has implemented this fascinating Shy Tech design in its IMD process with capacitive PolyTC® touch sensors.
