HMI Panel by LEONHARD KURZ and Swarovski Mobility

"Making Every Product Unique" – we have achieved this once again with this smart crystal panel, which we have developed together with Swarovski Mobility and the KURZ subsidiaries BURG DESIGN and PolyIC. We won the "Special Mention" award in the Automotive Brand Contest 2022 in the category Mobility & Innovation – Smart & Digital. This component enhances the interior of vehicles in the luxury segment, not only visually, but also with its smart functionality. At CES 2022, trade visitors were already captivated by the extraordinary designs: from cool, elegant light fashion to a sporty design in black with crystals in smoked glass look to luxurious lounge fashion with shimmering gold effects.

 

The challenge

The vehicle interior of tomorrow is increasingly becoming the second living room, influenced by the megatrends of electromobility and autonomous driving. Individual design, maximum functionality and intuitive operation ensure a fantastic experience. This demand can only be fulfilled with innovative processes and solutions that are combined efficiently and economically. The KURZ Group and Swarovski Mobility have succeeded in doing so. 


The competencies of the solution partners complement each other perfectly: design and decoration technology from BURG DESIGN, highly transparent sensor technology from KURZ subsidiary PolyIC and handmade touch-capable crystals from Swarovski unite in the award-winning Smart Crystal Panel.

The solution

The PMD process has resulted in a component that brings glamour into the interior through various variants with color-coordinated crystals. Handmade Swarovski crystals inspire with depth effect and reflections. In addition, the feel of crystal is only familiar to a few, which makes this material even more exciting. 
Backlighting and holographic effects through printed pictograms visually enhance the cockpit. The special feature of the HMI panel, however, is the touch functionality of the crystals through integrated PolyTC® sensors. 


In addition, the design freedom is limitless: day-night design, various light and color effects, sustainable metallization based on indium and real carbon looks are just a few of the countless design variations.
